Interesting Martially marked Pre-Civil War Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver, with holster, #85575, .36 cal., 7-1/2'' octagonal barrel, arsenal blue finish, brass backstrap and triggerguard, with one-piece walnut grips. Triggerguard marked ''U.S.'', butt marked ''V.V.G.'', as well as the number ''3'', which is also found on the cylinder adjacent to the serial number. Similar 1860 Armies have been observed with markings such as this and are consistent with sidearms issued to black soldiers during the Civil War. Condition is very good as arsenal refinished, with part of the barrel address removed; approx. 60% finish remains. Oil finished grips with light general knackering, the interior of which have been re-glued. Forward triggerguard screw does not snug tightly; wedge is a more recent replacement, but all other visible serial numbers match. Action turns intermittently, bore is fair. Interesting period military holster, although unmarked, was probably mfg'd by Watervliet Arsenal, showing light to moderate general crazing but good stitching and no plug. Est.: $1,800-$2,400.
