Martially marked Smith & Wesson Second Model Schofield Single Action top break revolver, .45 cal., 7” barrel, blue finish, wood grips, #5837 followed by a star (butt plate serial # and “US” stamp). This gun is in overall fine condition showing what appears to be an old factory re-finish on a gun that was pretty sharp to begin with as the bore is excellent, the markings sharp, the action crisp and the grips fine overall with a few scattered nicks and mars from carry and storage but with two outstanding inspector’s cartouches and the date “1876” stamped on the left grip beneath the cartouche. The blue shows approx. 97% remaining and there are traces of case color on the hammer and trigger guard. The Schofield is accompanied by a two stage flap US black leather holster with Rock Island Arsenal-marked black leather belt and brass US buckle; US leather cartridge pouch with “38 H” stamped on the leather flap; US leather bayonet frog and a US marked socket bayonet and metal scabbard. The overall condition of the leather gear is good to very good and the bayonet and scabbard are overall fine. No further information on this set was available from the Richard Wolfe estate but very interesting and deserving of further research concerning the “38 H” marking. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
