Martially Inspected Civil War Remington Old Model Army Model Revolver
This is an example of an "Old Model" Army Remington .44 Army percussion revolver that was produced early in the Civil War, circa 1861. The revolver has a brass trigger guard and walnut grips. Single letter sub-inspectors markings on the left and right rear barrel flat, "J", "S" on the left front frame and trigger guard, "A" upper left frame, "E" lower left rear frame and "J" and "S" on the cylinder. The matching serial number is on the bottom barrel flat and left side of the frame under the grip. Fitted with two piece smooth walnut grips with an unreadable boxed cartouche on the lower left panel.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a brownish patina with overall scattered minor dents and dings, and some minor pitting. The trigger guard has an aged patina. The grips are good with a few minor chips along the bottom edges, a chip on the upper left side at the frame and scattered minor dents and dings. With exception noted above, the markings are clear. The action is fine.
