Gunfighter and Marshal Matt Duggans Smith & Wesson .44 double action Frontier revolver serial number 4340 with a 5” barrel. Duggan was appointed Marshal in Leadville, Colorado in the spring of 1878. Duggan has a busy career being a lawman and was mostly liked during his time. His first gun fight happened when he shot and killed a drunk cowboy who started to draw his gun on him. Marshall Duggan started to get a reputation in town and even arrested the wealthiest man in town for disorderly conduct. He would soon be dismissed for being drunk himself and pointing his revolver at local citizens. Duggan was involved in a few gunfights in his time before he was shot and killed on April 9th, 1888. Revolver is a dark grey/plum patina with pin-prick surface oxidation visible. Left-side plate is inscribed “Matt Duggan Marshal Leadville, Colo. Mother of pearl grips are in overall good condition, no cracks visible. Bore shows traces of rifling left with frosting and pitting visible, as expected on Marshal’s gun!
