LS in French, signed “Lafayette,” one page, 7.5 x 8.75, September 15, 1828. Untranslated letter to Mr. Duplan. In the letter, Lafayette refers to the opening of parliament and that it “will be useful to know public opinion on the reorganization of the National Guard” and that the government is “based on the principle of election…” His opinion on the matter is well known and “it becomes almost superfluous to repeat that elsewhere on official occasions …” Second integral page bears an address panel in another hand to Duplan at Versailles as well as several postal cancellations. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a uniform shade of light toning, some light creasing and wrinkling, and a mounting strip along hinge of second page, otherwise fine condition.
