ALS in English, signed "Lafayette," one page, 6.5 x 6.5, July 6, 1807. Handwritten by the Marquis de Lafayette, referencing the anniversary of America's independence before launching into a discussion of his crops. In part (translated): "I have received your kind favour dated on a Happy day, 4th July. Accept my best thanks for the note you have been pleased to inclose. I hope it will prove very useful to my friends. What you have told me of the Rutabaga leads me to think I might after the Wheat Harvest go on the same field…If you are of the same opinion will you send me some seed with an instruction, only for an experiment." He adds a postscript: "My wife and family have much regretted their absence from home when you visited La Grange." In fine condition, with light scattered staining and wrinkling.
