Marlin Model 1893 Take-Down 38-55 SN: 155309
Manufactured in 1897 in takedown configuration and chambered in .38-55 caliber. The rifle is fitted with a blade front sight, rear sight removed with insert in the dovetail, tang mounted Lyman peep sight, "J" code . The 26" octagonal barrel has the two-line Marlin legend, marking, and the caliber designation at the breech. Half lenght tube magazine. The frame has a casehardened finish and is marked "MARLIN SAFETY" on top. It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock. The buttstock is fitted with a steel crescent buttplate. The bore is overall excellent/bright with a little frosting, the action is smooth. the wood stocks are very good/sound with minor scratches/dings, have been varnished at some point. The blued barrel is about 80%, dulled somewhat with minor scratches, and edge wear, some small areas of very light scattered pin-prick pitting, barely noticeable. The case colored receiver, hammer, and lever is about 20% with the rest turning a gray/brown molted patina with some scattered areas of light pitting. All markings are crisp clear.
