Manufactured circa 1899. The barrel is equipped with a brass blade front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. The top barrel flat is marked "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN CT. U.S.A./PATENTED OCT. 11,1887, APRIL 2, 1889, AUGUST 1,1893" directly ahead of the rear sight, "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" flanked by a diamond on the left rear flat and "38-55" on the top flat at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY", the upper tang "MODEL / 1893" and the serial number is marked on the bottom front of the frame. Casehardened receiver, hammer and lever with a blue finished barrel and full length magazine. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with steel forend cap and steel crescent buttplate.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 40% original blue finish mixed with a smooth plum patina. The bolt and protected sides of the lever show strong original case colors with a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance of the casehardened surfaces. The wood is also fine retaining 70% original varnish and showing some scattered minor dings and dents. The markings remain clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
