Marlin Model 1891 1st Variation Lever Action Takedown Rifle, #51110, .22 RF cal., 24" octagon barrel with -length magazine, blue and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut straight grip and forend, smooth crescent steel buttplate, replacement dovetailed Lyman ivory tipped blade front sight, rear sight has been removed and the dovetail filled with a sight blank. Period adjustable aperture sight has been added at the tang. Marked "MARLIN SAFETY" across the top of the receiver. Mfg'd 1891. Rifle is in very good overall condition, with the barrel and magazine having gone to an even plum patina with scattered scratches and some mild surface erosion. There are a pair of vacant drilled and tapped holes on the left side of the barrel. Receiver shows traces of silvered color case hardened finish, with majority going to patina. Lever and hammer retain muted case hardening, brighter in protected areas. Factory markings are clear. Stock is in very good condition with scattered indentations, scratches, and is slightly proud at the toe. Action is crisp and functions well. Bore is fair with moderate erosion and shallow rifling.
