Produced between 1881 and 1883. Rocky Mountain silver blade front sight and elevator rear sight on barrel with the "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW - HAVEN, CT U.S.A." address over the patent and reissue dates, with arrows pointing inward flanking the top line. The top flat at the breech is marked "40 CAL.". The loading gate has a sliding cover, and the receiver is fitted with a double set trigger. Smooth straight grip stock with full length magazine, metal forearm tip, and smooth butt.

Very good, with most of the surface having a mixed brown and gray patina overall, with some mild handling marks and traces of the original blue finish in the protected areas. Stock is also very good, with dents, scratches and scuffs, heaviest and concentrated near the buttplate. Mechanically fine.
