Manufactured in 1881, the first year of production. German silver blade and buckhorn style rear sights on barrel marked "J. M. MARLIN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. / PAT'D. FEB. 7 '65. JAN. 7 '73 SEP. 14 '75 NOV. 19 & 26 '78 JUNE 3 '79 DEC. 9 '79 NOV. 9 '80 REISSUE NOV. 1880" ahead of the rear sight and "45 GOVT" at the breech. The two digit serial number (43) is stamped on the underside of the frame. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with iron forend cap and buttplate.

Condition: Good. The rifle is mostly a smooth brown patina overall with some scattered minor spotting and pitting (mostly on the receiver). The magazine tube has a gash on the underside. The revarnished wood is fair with a couple gouges on the wrist (left side), removed buttstock sling swivel stud, and 1" long open crack on the forearm (right side), along with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically very good.
