Marlin Ballard number 6 Schuetzen rifle with custom heavy 30” half-round half-octagon barrel marked “rifled by F. J. Spaedy”, serial numbered “1712”. Frame numbered “19787”. 32-40 caliber. Weight is approx. 14lbs The receiver shows fancy factory type engraving with panel of bear on left, leaping stag on right, surrounded by Germanic scrolls. The rifle shows fancy checkered deluxe burl walnut stocks with Schuetzen type buttstock and Schuetzen type buttplate. The forend shows an unusual type configuration with finger rest at rear for use with the exaggerated lever. The barrel shows 90-95% thinning and toning old blue finish with some just beginning aging. The frame shows 30-50% case hardening drifting to grey with some erosion and darkening just starting, and some minor pitting at the rear of the frame. The stocks are very good showing some dings, mars, scratches, and minor wear. The barrel is mounted with blocks for a scope, the frame is drilled for a tang sight which is missing. The action is good, the bore is near excellent. Consignor’s notes indicate former collection of John T. Amber. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
