Marlin Ballard Pacific Custom single shot target rifle, barrel signed in script “W.S. VanHorne, Cincinnati Ohio 69008 .40 cal” on top flat of barrel, believed to be .40-50 caliber (per consignor). Serial number 11501. The rifle shows a 30” heavy octagon barrel, custom select walnut stocks checkered on the forend with mount for palm rest now missing. The barrel is of medium to slightly heavy weight, and the rifle weighs approx. 15.65lbs. The bottom flat of the barrel is stamped “B. A. Dawson” beneath the forend. The rifle shows approx. 60-70% old blue finish drifting to patina. The stocks are good to very good. The barrel has been mounted with blocks for a scope. There is no provision for a front sight. The rear of frame is drilled and tapped for a tang sight, which is now missing. The action is good, the bore is excellent. An interesting target rifle that needs to be researched further as to identities. Est.: $2,000-$4,000
