Marlin Ballard Number 5 Pacific Single Shot Rifle
Full octagon barrel with a Marble number 6 blade front sight with beach and unique buckhorn rear sight, with "45-70" marked at the breech. The left side of the casehardened frame is marked "J.M. MARLIN NEW-HAVEN CONN, U.S.A. / BALLARD'S. PATENT NOV. 5 1861.", with the serial number on the underside and the upper tang drilled and tapped for a sight mount. Double set trigger and small loop lever, with a wooden ramrod. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The barrel is numbered to the frame.

Condition: Refinished. The barrel retains 80% refinished blue finish with the balance a smooth plum patina with some pin point pitting near the breech. The remaining surfaces retain most of the refurbished case colors with extensive mild pitting on the receiver. The stock has few hairline cracks with a large missing chip near the frame and the forearm has a repaired crack, otherwise the wood is good with some minor dings and scratches. Rifle will not take a cartridge.
