Full octagon barrel with German silver blade and unique buckhorn (missing elevator) rear sight and marked "40-63" at the breech. The left side of the casehardened frame is marked "MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A. / BALLARD'S. PATENT \. NOV. 5 1861.", with a tang peep sight, double set triggers, and small loop lever. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with steel crescent buttplate. Complete with a wooden ramrod.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth dark brown patina. The frame, lever, hammer, and breechblock retain 30% original case colors with the balance a brown patina. The buttplate has a smooth dark brown patina. There is overall minor spotting on the barrel, with some minor spotting on the remaining metal surfaces. The wood is fine with a few minor cracks on the forearm near the tip and a hairline crack on the buttstock near the frame, along with some pressure marks, dings, and scratches.
