Marlin 1st Model Derringer, #2212, .22 cal., 2-1/16'' part-round barrel, silver-plated brass frame, blue iron barrel, case hardened hammer, fiery blue trigger, bird's head rosewood grips. Mfg'd 1863-1867, with quantities estimated at less than 4000. Etched panel to top of barrel marked ''J.M. Marlin/New Haven CT''. Considered quite scarce by collectors and represent the first production of handguns by John Marlin. Condition is very good. Barrel assembly retains approx. 30%-40% thinning and toning blue. Frame with silver plate in protected areas. Fire blue to spur trigger remains approx. 30% vivid. Rosewood grips with moderate wear and light fractures to both scales, more pronounced on the left. Action is crisp, bore with moderate pitting throughout. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
