American general (1896–1984) who came under fire for his questionable leadership during World War II and who signed the cease-fire agreement with North Korea in 1953. TLS signed “Mark,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Army Field Forces letterhead, January 23, 1952. Clark writes to Mrs. Robert H. Soule of Washington, DC, in part: “The news of Bob’s sudden and untimely passing Saturday came as a real shock to me for I had been advised that he would soon be returning to duty. Bob’s loss will be keenly felt, both personally and professionally, by his host of admiring friends as well as by the Army to which he rendered such devoted service. He was an outstanding solider, a fearless leader and a real gentleman…I hope that you and Genevieve Ann may find solace in knowing of the esteem which we too hold for that true friend and patriot.” In fine condition, with light toning and a few diagonal creases towards the right edge.
