Warner, </B></I><B><I>The Gilded Age</B></I></B></I> (Hartford: American Publishing Company, 1874), subscription edition, 574 pages, illustrations, marbled endpapers, brown-leather binding with gold lettering, 8vo (8.75" x 6"). Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner collaborated on this novel satirizing the greed and corruption of the post-Civil War era. The term "Gilded Age," inspired by Shakespeare's <I>King John</B></I>, originated with this title.
