Mark Twain: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (New York: Charles L. Webster and Company, 1885), first edition, second state, 366 pages, green cloth with gilt and black lettering and decoration on the front board and spine, 8vo (6.75" x 8.5"). This copy of Twain's masterpiece satisfies a number of the first state points associated with the release. The book contains the following traditional first state points: page 13 incorrectly attributes the illustration "Him and another man" to page 88; page 57 has the phrase "with the was" on the 11th line from the bottom; the word "touched" at page 58, line 29 and the word "would" at page 59, line 11 both show broken type on the last "d". Second issue points include the lack of a draped cloth on the frontispiece bust of Twain and the final "5" listed in the pagination of page 155 is slightly larger than the other two numbers, consistent with the second state of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The book here is in very good condition, with bumped corners and some shelf wear present to the the edges and boards. Foxing is present at the endpapers, and scattered throughout the mostly clean textblock. A lovely edition of the book that ensured Twain's legacy as a great author.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
