Mark Twain signed ''Author's Edition de Luxe'' of ''The Writings of Mark Twain.'' Chatto & Windus: London: 1899-1900. This 22 volume set is number 126 of 620 sets, with the limitation page of Volume One bearing the pristine signatures, ''SL. Clemens / (Mark Twain)''. Set comprises the first 22 volumes of the 25 volume set, with the last three being index volumes. Beautiful set with deckled page edges is bound in the original apple green cloth with paper labels. Original photogravure frontispieces and plates throughout each volume, housing Twain's masterpieces, including ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,'' ''Life on the Mississippi,'' ''The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,'' ''The Innocents Abroad,'' ''Roughing It,'' ''The Gilded Age'' as well as ''Short Stories and Sketches.'' Each 6'' x 8.5'' volume is in very good condition with tight bindings and clean pages. Some light foxing and toning throughout as well as bookplates of the previous owner, Godfrey Lyle Smyth in each volume. Overall in very good condition.
