Title is Calling from the Mist. 14" by 18" unframed. 17 1/4" by 21" framed. Mark Rohrig (Born 1955) is active/lives in Colorado. Mark Rohrig is known for Native American theme painting, landscape and figure. Born in 1955 in Grand Junction, Colorado, Mark Rohrig showed talent at an early age. He is a surrealist/realist painter who is inspired by the mystical nobility of the Native American culture. Rohrig is self-taught except for some tutoring from a middle school teacher, Frances West, and a handful of classes at Mesa State College. Rohrig's artwork is a reflection of life experience and perseverance that forges a common bond between him and Native Americans. Since 1975 he has been creating these images and continues to be inspired by the Native American spirit. He intends his paintings to be vibrant and spiritual, from the vast landscapes with multiple braves, to stark portraits of weary warriors, and multi-textured backgrounds with a stalwart figure that embodies spiritual values. Building his paints up from gray tones and working without photos, he is very private about his work, allowing only close friends into his studio. Frank Howell was an influence and mentor, he and Howell forged a friendship over 30 years ago.
