October 8, 1847. Hopkins writes, in part: “ …I had made up my mind to decline lecturing in Albany till I received your last with the request of several of my friends who have graduated there. This furnishes an argument that I cannot well resist, and if you can make your arrangements for me the 2nd week in January I will endeavor to be there.
