MARK HOPKINS (1802-1887) American educator and theologian who served as president of Williams College. Autograph Letter Signed, “M. Hopkins.” One page, 7 1/4” x 9 1/4”. Williams College. October 8, 1847. Hopkins writes, in part: “ …I had made up my mind to decline lecturing in Albany till I received your last with the request of several of my friends who have graduated there. This furnishes an argument that I cannot well resist, and if you can make your arrangements for me the 2nd week in January I will endeavor to be there. I do not known as yet, what I shall lecture above. Please let me know whether you can arrange it for that week … ” Usual folds. Overall Very Fine.
