<B>"Marine Cutter" Service Button Circa 1860.</B></I> The Department of the Treasury or the "Marine Cutter" Service, which would later become the United States Coast Guard, were active during the Civil War and beyond in stopping ships and collecting customs revenues from them. This button is listed as Albert FD-1A. The verso clearly displays the words "U. States Revenue Service. It measures 23mm and the front has the standard Department of the Treasury Seal and a horizontal anchor above it. This button is undug and is in pristine condition; the only problem being some slight soiling on both sides.
