Vintage pencil signature, “Marilyn Monroe,” on the reverse of an off-white 7 x 3 promotional slip for the Marx Brothers film, Love Happy. Slip is also signed in pencil by Harpo Marx’s film double, “Double for Harpo.” Consignor notes signature was obtained in the lobby of the State Theater in Rockford, Illinois before the pre-premiere of Love Happy. In fair to good condition, with a complete vertical separation to right side, separating several letters of last name from remainder of signature, other intersecting folds lightly affecting signature, scattered toning and soiling, and several small edge tears. Accompanied by a photocopied newspaper photo from the June 15, 1949, issue of the Rockford Register Public showing Monroe meeting several children at the Children’s Home of Rockford, with several of the children holding similar slips. Marilyn’s signature remains bold and legible, and with the strong provenance, and perhaps a bit of professional restoration, would make a fine addition to any collection.
