Vintage pencil signature, “Marilyn Monroe,” on the reverse of an off-white 7 x 3 promotional slip for the Marx Brothers film, Love Happy. Slip is also signed in pencil by Harpo Marx’s film double, “Double for Harpo.” Consignor notes signature was obtained in the lobby of the State Theater in Rockford, Illinois before the pre-premiere of Love Happy. In very good condition, with scattered creasing and wrinkling, lightly affecting several letters of signature, and scattered light toning. Accompanied by a clipped newspaper photo from the June 15, 1949, issue of the Rockford Register Public showing Monroe meeting several children at the Children’s Home of Rockford, with several of the children holding similar slips.

Groucho Marx had recounted a story about the casting of Monroe for the film. He stated that the movie's producer asked three aspiring actresses to walk seductively past Marx. Whomever Marx decided was the best walker would play opposite him in the film, with Groucho selecting Monroe for the role.
