Incredibly sexy vintage glossy 8 x 10 full-length photo of Marilyn in a light bathing suit, with one hand in her hair, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To George Gruner, Love & Kisses & Thanks, Marilyn Monroe.” By the summer of 1955, Marilyn had taken up residence in New York at the Waldorf-Astoria Towers. Light irregular adhesion and skipping to Monroe’s signature and portion of inscription, silvering to darker areas of image, scattered creases and surface marks, and a few small edge tears, otherwise very good condition. George Gruner installed the white carpet in Marilyn’s apartment. Accompanied by a photocopied letter of provenance from his children, Laurie Gruner and Peter Gruner, which reads, “Our father George Gruner was a carpet installer in New York City he had the honor of installing carpet for Marilyn Monroe in an apartment she shared with Arthur Miller when the job was done she gave him two signed photo’s as a tip and told him one day they would be worth a little cash for you and your family boy was she right one was made out to George Gruner and one to his son Peter. We enjoyed them for 55 years.” Authentically signed Marilyn Monroe images are scarce, and an example such as this, personalized and with exceptional provenance, is especially desirable.
