Absolutely stunning and early vintage sepia matte-finish 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders portrait, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To My Darling Grammy, Always lovingly your Norma Jeane.” In fine condition, with moderate contrast to Monroe’s signature against the shadows of her shoulder, and a light crease to lower left border affecting nothing.

This image of ‘Young Marilyn’ originated from the collection of Monroe’s cousin, Jack Monroe. Marilyn’s mother was Jack Monroe’s aunt, with the two youngsters raised together for a number of years in San Fernando, California. When Jack Monroe’s grandmother—Marilyn’s great aunt—died, he inherited her belongings including this image. As the starlet’s own ‘Grammy,’ maternal grandmother Della Mae Hogan, died in 1927, when Marilyn was only 1 year old, this early image was obviously gifted to Jack’s grandmother. This is a beautiful image of the starlet, remarkably early in her career, once given to a beloved and important role model in her young life. The child-like penmanship and familial intimacy which this photo exudes is beyond reproach.
