Incredible typed letter signed as both ''Norma Jeane Dougherty'' and ''Marilyn Monroe'' dated 10 February 1947. This contract amendment with 20th Century Fox, states that the studio is exercising its right to extend Monroe's contract by sixth months. This is one of the first signatures as ''Marilyn Monroe'', as her name change was a request of Fox, stipulated in the original contract that this amends. This document is dated the day before the release of the first movie featuring Monroe (uncredited), ''The Shocking Miss Pilgrim.'' Contract allows a glimpse into the career beginnings of one of the most glamorous Hollywood stars of all time. In part: ''…This letter, when accepted by you, will confirm our mutual understanding and agreement relative to the amendment of your contract of employment with us, dated August 24, 1946, as follows, but not otherwise: It is mutually understood and agreed that we do hereby exercise the option granted to us by the terms of your said contract of employment with us to extend the term of the employment thereby created for a period of six (6) months, commencing February 26, 1947, and you do hereby acknowledge the due and timely exercise of the aforesaid option…'' One year later, in August 1947, Fox opted not to renew Monroe’s contract. 8.5'' x 11'' single-page letter on 20th Century Fox letterhead is in near fine condition. An outstanding piece of movie history.
