Unique hardcover "Mutual Payroll Book" used by the accounting department of Marilyn Monroe Productions in 1956, 8.75 x 7.5, logging weekly payroll information for employees including Marilyn Monroe, Milton Greene, David Maysles, and Clyde Owens. Includes seven canceled checks from Marilyn Monroe Productions logged in the book, including four signed by Joseph Carr and three signed by Milton Greene, with two made payable to Marilyn Monroe (with stamped "Account of Marilyn Monroe" endorsements on the reverse), and the others made payable to Henrietta Greene, Hedda Rosten, Clyde Owens, David C. Maysles, and Milton Greene. In fine condition, with wear to the ledger's covers.

Spurred by her desire to have more control over her career, Monroe and business partner Milton Greene formed the independent film production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, in 1955. The studio made two films—Bus Stop in 1956, and the Prince and the Showgirl in 1957—but folded soon thereafter when Monroe's once cordial relationship with Greene dissolved after Arthur Miller accused Greene of undermining his wife in order to further his own financial interests.
