Allan Snyder was Marilyn Monroe's makeup artist throughout her career, from her first screen test at Twentieth Century Fox in 1946 to her funeral makeup in 1962, and the pair developed a very close working relationship and friendship. For his work, Snyder was nominated twice for Primetime Emmy Awards, under the category of Outstanding Achievement in Make-Up. Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) was an American actress and model, who became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s. Monroe's few rivals in popularity include Elvis Presley and Mickey Mouse, and no other star has ever inspired such a wide range of emotions from lust to pity, from envy to remorse. The American Film Institute has named her the sixth greatest female screen legend in American film history, and the Smithsonian Institution has included her on their list of "100 Most Significant Americans of All Time". Marilyn Monroe remains a sex symbol, beauty icon, and one of the most famous stars of classical Hollywood cinema.
