Marie Severin - Marvel Tales #26 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1970). Marie Severin's cover drawing for " "Marvel Tales #26 recalls one of the most dramatic tests in Spider-Man's early life. In a three-issue story arc, originally drawn by sturdy Steve Ditko, the wall-crawler battled Doctor Octopus (as the Master Planner) for possesion of a cannister of rare radioactive isotopes. Spider-Man needed the isotopes in order to formulate a serum designed to save Aunt May's ebbing life. In the build-up to the conclusion of ""The Final Chapter"" (originally printed in " "Amazing Spider-Man #33) Spider-Man was trapped beneath a huge block of wrecked machinery in Doc Ock's flooding, underwater lair, with time running out for both Spider-Man and Aunt May. Summoning a herculean reserve of strength, and pushed to his limits, Spidey threw off the dead-weight in one of the greatest sequences of storytelling in comic book history. This Marie Severin scene was originally used for the top half of the cover for " "Marvel Tales #26 (the bottom half was composed of panels of Thor and the Human Torch). The drawing has since been mounted to a facsimile of Marvel cover stock, with recreated logo and caption blocks added. Thus, the drawing is now presented as a single-image cover. This cover has an image area of 11.5"" x 17"", and other than a few small stains, the art is in Very Good condition.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour.
