Marie Louise Autograph Letter Signed.
Marie Louise Autograph Letter Signed"Louise". One page, 4.25" x 6.75", Sala Sweden, June 19, 1835. Written entirely in French, in the lovely hand of Marie Louise, better known as the second wife of Napoleon and Empress of the French. She was born in Vienna, the daughter of Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor. It was his intentions that the arranged marriage between Marie and Napoleon would strengthen the ties between the Austrian and First French empires. Napoleon had his own interests at heart as well, since marrying a member of the famous Hapsburg family could only add to the legitimacy of his rule. After Napoleon's abdication she would go on to become the Duchess of Parma, and would eventually, though slightly debated, to officially take legitimate rule of that region. Her later morganatic marriages would provide her with several more children who would go on to become Italian rulers as well. Matted alongside a lovely charcoal drawing of her profile; framed to an overall size of 14" x 12", the letter is in very fine condition; light overall toning; usual folds are present; pencil notations on the lower edge.
