Marge Buell - Little Lulu Panel Page Original Art
Marge Buell - Little Lulu Panel Page Original Art (Saturday Evening Post, undated). In 1934, the Saturday Evening Post lost a popular weekly panel cartoon, Henry, to King Features Syndicate. To fill the loss, one of the magazine's contributors, Marjorie Henderson Buell, was asked to create a replacement for the bald headed Henry. Buell decided that the new character had to be modeled after Henry, so she kept Henry's basic appearance, and added long corkscrew curls, a skirt, and girl's shoes. She kept the shoe button eyes and turned up nose. The magazine editors named the character Little Lulu, and Marjorie signed her cartoon panels as "Marge." Little Lulu has her own idea of home improvement in this pen and ink with ink wash illustration. With an image area of 6.5" x 7", the art is in Excellent condition. From the Random House Archives.
