TLS, one page, 8 x 11.5, prime minister letterhead, November 29, 1989. Letter to “The Right Reverend The Lord Bishop of London.” In full: “Thank you for your letter of 23 November from which I note that you wish to resign your See on 8 May 1991. I am taking steps to inform The Queen and my office will let you know as soon as this has been done. I understand your wish to make a public announcement in good time and this will no doubt be appreciated by the Crown Appointments Commission.” Attractively double-cloth-matted and framed with a portrait of Thatcher to an overall size of 21 x 17.5. In fine condition, with intersecting folds. The recipient of this letter, Graham Leonard, was a bishop of the Church of England but resigned and became a Roman Catholic, becoming the most senior Anglican cleric to do so since the English Reformation.
