American author (1900–1949) whose single novel, Gone With the Wind, became one of the best-sellers of all time and spawned one of the most fabled movies in Hollywood history. She died after being struck by a speeding car at the age of 48. TLS signed “Peggy Mitchell Marsh,” one page, 3.75 x 5, December 21 [no year]. Mitchell writes to Dr. Boland, Chairman of the Atlanta chapter of the American Red Cross, where Mitchell was a volunteer during World War II. In full: “I have just read about the action of the Phi Beta Kappa Associates and I congratulate you. It makes your friends here at home feel very good to know that people in far-off places have learned the fine things about you that your own people have known for these many years.” In very good condition, with professional restoration to paper, trimmed edges, and subtle overall haloing to signature.
