Marc Chagall autograph letter signed, dated 15 January 1959 on ''Les Collines / Vence'' letterhead. Letter is addressed to a Talpir in Tel-Aviv, a friend of Chagall's and editor of the Israeli art magazine ''Gazit.'' Reads in part: ''Dear Talpir, Thank you for your letter. How do I thank you for your continued fondness of me, If I wasn't my 'age' I would say: I will try to be worthy of it, thank you for wanting to write about me. You know that a book by Dr. Franz Maier about my work was published in Germany and in France by Kalman Levi. You have something to say, I feel it for a long time. Usually, I think, Israelis don't write about me, and its not the same. My love for Israel hasn't changed. All my paintings from home were sent to the Museum in Hamburg, for a retrospective exhibition… from there the exhibition moves to the Munich Museum and then to the Pavilion Marsan (Louvre) - 'Musee des art decoratifs' -- 1908-1959, 50 years of work, that's something…Yours truly, Marc Chagall''. Ink letter measures 8.25'' x 10.5'' on one page. Minor foxing throughout and small chip at bottom, else very good condition overall.
