This lithograph by Marc Chagall is titled Lovers with Red Sun and was published by
George Braziller in New York in 1960. The lithograph features two lovers resting under a
bright red sun, arms embracing each other, with streaks of vibrant yellow and blue in the
background.
Chagall was a Russian artist from Belarus. He emigrated to France in 1910, just before
World War I. He was a modernist who drew inspiration from dreams. His themes
incorporated recollections of his early years in Russia, his native village, flying lovers,
mythical creatures of folklore and legend, and a love for his adopted city of Paris. He
was recognized as one of the foremost color lithographers of the 20th century.
