OTHER HANDMADE, Opaque. One of the largest Opaques that you are going to find. The baby blue color. This is a handgathered, single pontil marble, with an exceptional "9" on it. There are several small subsurface moons on it, and a couple of sparkles. The pontil is ground and there is a large chip near it. It appears that the missing piece of glass was glued back in because some glue remains, but the chipped piece has been lost to time. Stunning and exceptionally rare. It's possible that you could classify this as a Transitional, due to the handgather and the "9". It looks like a Melon Ball Opaque. Vews much better than the grade indicates. Virtually wet surface. Germany, circa 1870-1920. 2-3/16". Near Mint(-) (8.2). Provenance: ex-collection Joe Rocco. Estimate: $500-$1000
Note: I've included another image now that shows the ground pontil. The pontil is completely intact, the chip does not touch it.
