Lot 151. SWIRL, Ribbon Core. End of cane single Ribbon Core Swirl. Double twist. Probably from the beginning of the cane. Small blown air hole. Germany, circa 1870-1920. 25/32". Mint(-) (9.1).
This marble was originally sold in Morphy’s Auction November 6, 2010. The consignor has asked me to include the description from the earlier auction here: Transitional Oxblood Marble. This is a very important transitional by lauscha masters as it is the first naked ribbon. It is a ground breaking marble made before the hand made marbles. It is like the rest of these transitionals that were hand faceted on a manual loom grinder. Circa 1860. Clear base with oxblood, white, turquoise, and blue twisting through center in tornado fashion. Beautiful marble with some slight internal bubbles and a few imperfections as typical of a Latent ground pontil transitional marble.Condition (9.6). Size 13/16" Dia.
