<B>Marah Ellis Ryan: Signed Author's Personal Copy of <I>The Flute of the Gods</B></I></B></I> <B>with a Typed Synopsis of the Novel.</B></I> (New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1909), first edition, 338 pages, brown decorative cloth with yellow and blue stamping & titles and a sepia-tone photo mounted to the front board, 8vo (5.5" x 8.5"), no dust jacket (as issued), housed in a handsome brown quarter leather slipcase with marbled boards, gilt spine titles over red title plates, gilt decorative flourish, and five raised bands. Deckled edges. Illustrated with duotone photogravures after Edward Curtis photographs taken specifically for this book. Inscribed on the front free endpaper as "<I>Property of Marah Ellis Ryan</B></I>." In addition to the book, this lot includes a five-page typed synopsis of <I>The Flute of the Gods</B></I> with a handwritten title on the first page and Ryan's signature both below the title and at the end of the synopsis. Good condition, with minimal edge wear, spine wear, and bumped corners, especially at the top right corner of the front board. Front hinge is shaken, but intact, though the rear hinge has separated. Flyleaves toned and some chipping to the rear free endpaper. The text itself is clean and bright, especially the wonderful Curtis photogravures. Previous bookseller's pencil notations next to the inscription on the front free endpaper.
