<B>A Fine Unpublished Manuscript Entitled "Old Forts in the Hudson Highlands" by Colonel W. Winthrop,</B></I> 203 pages, 8 x 12.25", New York, 1895. An exhaustive study on the fortifications of the lower Hudson Valley that figured prominently in the American Revolution replete with historical accounts of the forts including West Point, Stony Point, Verplank's Point, Fort Montgomery, Fort Clinton and others together with notes on the present states of the sites (at least as of 1895). Winthrop has also included hand-drawn diagrams of all he forts and their satellite redoubts. A monumental work that provides a most valuable scholarly resource on these important fortifications that guarded the interior of New York from the ravages of the British army. Pages lightly chipped but overall quite clean and in very good condition.
