Gouache on paper. Featuring abstract composition. Signed and manner of Rudolf Bauer (German, 1889-1953) on the lower left corner. 14.6 x 18.5 in. (37 x 47 cm) Rudolf Bauer was a German-born painter who participated in exhibits at the famed avant-garde gallery, Der Sturm, in Berlin. His lyrical abstractions, were included in several group shows with artists like Wassily Kandinksy, Marc Chagall, and Paul Klee. Richly colored and composed with pristine shapes, as seen in his Blue Triangle (1936), his works evoke a hidden mysticism. Born on February 11, 1889 in Lindenwald, Germany (now Poland), Bauer studied briefly at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. In 1930, Solomon R. Guggenheim, persuaded by the artist-curator.
