This is a hand painted oil recreation of a W.A. Walker. Walker
was from Charleston, SC and was very prolific after the Civil War.
He was the first person to create souveniers for travelers. Most
of his paintings were about the size of this one which is
111/4x161/4--small enough to fit into a suitcase. Walker's
paintings sold for between 50 cents and $4.00, and today his
originals sell for about $44,000. Walker died in 1921. This
subject is a charming man with a brown umbrella, stovepipe hat,
valise, and suit jacket.
