An extremely rare and important collection of more than 65 maps from the Mammoth Mine. The Mammoth Mine history goes back before 1880. It contained some of the richest gold ores in the Tintic district, and was a major producer through about 1900. New discoveries were made in 1924-5, about the time some of this map assemblage was made, and mining continued. The archive also reflects modern mine exploration, with many maps of geology on specific mine levels. These are level maps, done by various mining engineers, including Dave Wade. The maps vary in scale from 1" =30' to 1" = 100'. The maps, drawn black line on linen and hand-colored measure approximately 2 x 2' up to a whopping 4' x 10'. Because of cave-ins and water table issues in the past, the information contained in the documents makes is irreplaceable and priceless for economic geologists and environmental engineers.

Information includes level, cross sections of the mine shafts and the neighboring properties, property maps. Some of the maps appear to have been utilized for a court case, possibly in a dispute over apex rights, as they are marked with exhibit designations. Some of the best maps are the early Tintic District Maps showing all the surveyed claims and company holdings, probably pre-1924.

These are in very nice condition and a one of a kind collection, for practical application as well as for collecting. A more detailed inventory is available.
