Major Reno Quality Cigars Cigar Label. A lithographed 9" x 6.75" inner label with stunningly bright reds and beautiful gold embossing around a distinguished young portrait of Reno. Marcus Reno was a career military officer in the U.S. Army who participated in the Civil War, but it was later in the Black Hills War where he gained his notoriety. At the Little Bighorn, General George Armstrong Custer divided his regiment into three parts with Captain Benteen and Major Reno in charge of two, and gave them instructions to attack further upstream. Custer led his 200 men in a direct charge with the consequences familiar to all. Reno met a strong Native American force and retreated to a bluff overlooking the river. He was strongly criticized for his actions (or lack thereof) and the rumor that he was drunk during the battle; he spent much of the rest of his life defending himself from the critics, dying of cancer in 1889. A label with great display and historical appeal.
