Maj. Gen. Edmund P. Gaines, Julian-MI-13, Uncirc
Major General Edmund P. Gaines, Julian-MI-13, Mint State Uncertified. Bronzed copper, 65 mm, 130.0 gm. Dies by Moritz Furst. Bust right with the major's identification around, reverse RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS NOVEMBER 3. 1814, Victory crowning trophies of war labeled ERIE on upright cannon. In exergue BATTLE OF ERIE AUG.15.1814, FURST F. at lower edge. This mahogany-brown piece shows glint of original mint red, along with scattered carbon (NGC calls it "Corrosion" on a nongrade tag) and a couple of trivial contact marks. The broken R in FURST on the reverse identifies this piece as likely from the original dies. Julian says the original dies "lasted until the fiscal year 1884 when one of them was reproduced. The medal in the West Point collection has a broken R in FURST on the reverse."

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
