This sign shows "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" and a scene of steers swimming to shore for safetey. Written on the sign is " Four- Footed Life- Savers. In 1855 the 'Ariadne' loaded with cattle was caught in a big blow. Dismasted, she tossed toward the breakers. Help from shore was impossible. An Ingenious captain tied ropes to steers' horns and pushed them overboard. Some made it to shore where watchers secured the ropes, and after much effort, brought all to safety. Chewing serves to steady nerves." This sign is in good condition and shows good color. It measures 34" tall by 21" wide.
