Mahatma Gandhi ALS
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Mahatma Gandhi autograph letter signed, dated 15 February 1940, with accompanying postmarked envelope self-addressed to an American recipient. Letter reads in full, ''Dear Sister, I thank you for your letter and the sentiments expressed therein. / Yours sin'ly, MK Gandhi'' Letter written in blue ink on note paper measuring 6.5'' x 4.25'' with the printed address in English, top right corner, ''Maganwadi / Wardha (C.P.)'' Gandhi has crossed out the name Maganwadi and wrote ''Segaon'' above it, the name of the small village where he made his home from the mid-1930's. One vertical fold, otherwise fine. Envelope has three Indian stamps, two matching cancellation marks dated 15 February 1940, and a censor's label. Ink notation to verso of envelope reads ''From Gandhi - India / Feb. 15 - 1940'', presumably in the hand of the letter's recipient, Mrs. McMillan Seely, who addressed the envelope to herself. Envelope is soiled, otherwise very good condition. Very attractive signed item by the modern world's first non-violent peace activist.
