This image was recreated by a master engraver and required over eighteen passes through a flat-bed lithographic press to be completed. Each print is signed in the plate, stamped with the seal of the Magriite Estate and signed by the publisher on the verso. This is part of an editon of 300 and measures 30 3/4 x 22 3/4 inches. Le Fils de l'Homme or Son of Man was painted in 1964. It is in a private collection. It is also very well-know for its part played in the movies titled The Thomas Crown Affair. One of the best-known of Magritte's works, "The Son of Man", uses the apple, a fruit often present in the artist's paintings, to hide the face of his subject. The metaphor means that all knowledge and all revelation are incomplete, and that the deep knowledge of truth is denied to man
