Magnificent U.S. Colt Model 1878/ 1902 Double Action Revolver, Photographed in Wilkerson's Colt's D
Introduced in response to demand for a revolver with greater stopping power than the 38 caliber sidearms then being issued, Colt upgraded their 1878 revolver with an extended trigger, which gives greater leverage for double action firing and gives the gun it's distinctive profile. Fixed sights, with the one line block letter Hartford address on top of the barrel and "45 COLT." on the left side. Military markings include "U.S.", "JTT", and "1902" on the right side of the frame, "R.A.C" on the rear cylinder face, left side of the frame and trigger guard, and "P/ K" on the bottom of the barrel. A fine niter blue finish is present on the checkered hammer and distinctive long trigger, with checkered grips decorated with Rampant Colt logos and a lanyard swivel on the butt. This revolver is photographed/described on page 383 of "Colt's Double Action Revolver Model of 1878" by Don Wilkerson, with Wilkerson pointing out the scarcity of military issue weapons in such superb high condition.
